Students from Dhaka City College and Dhaka College were involved in a clash at the capital's Science Lab intersection around 11:45am today (15 April), leading to chase and counter-chase between the two groups.

Both sides were seen hurling bricks and stones at each other during the altercation. The cause of the clash, however, could not be immediately determined.

Witnesses at the scene reported that Dhaka City College students had taken position beneath the Science Lab foot-over bridge while Dhaka College students were stationed in front of the Government Teachers' Training College.

The two groups engaged in throwing bricks and stones at each other. Additional police forces have been deployed in the area around 12:15pm to bring the situation under control.

A student of Dhaka City College told the online portal Dhakapost that they do not want any further clashes with Dhaka College and are seeking a peaceful resolution.

"Yesterday, two of our students were beaten after being dragged off a bus by some Dhaka College students. Later, we also beat up two of their students in retaliation, but not severely. Today, this has turned into a clash involving hundreds of students. We don't want any more conflict," he said.

Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Ramna Division, Masud Alam, was seen actively working to disperse the students and prevent further escalation.

Confirming the matter to TBS, he said, "The clash erupted over a trivial matter. Additional police forces have been deployed."

Vehicular movement on Mirpur Road was temporarily halted during the clash.

Police later took position in front of the Government Teachers' Training College and began dispersing the Dhaka College students back to their campus.

Meanwhile, Dhaka City College students were also removed from the Science Lab intersection and sent back to their college premises.

Notably, students of the two institutions have engaged in several violent clashes in recent times, often triggered by minor disputes. These altercations have led to the vandalism of vehicles and public property.
