23 days after peace agreement, Ideal and Dhaka college students clash again; 2 injured
The hour-long confrontation broke out around 12:30pm in the capital’s Science Lab area, leaving two students of Ideal College injured, police said.
Just 23 days after a peace agreement was reached to prevent repeated altercations, students of Ideal College and Dhaka College clashed again today (2 December).
The hour-long confrontation broke out around 12:30pm in the capital's Science Lab area, leaving two students of Ideal College injured, police said.
New Market Police Station Inspector Mohammad Hafiz told The Business Standard that students of both colleges were travelling on the same bus when a scuffle broke out between a Dhaka College student and several Ideal College students.
"Later, when Ideal College students attempted to chase Dhaka College students, a clash broke out in front of the Uttara Bank branch near Dhaka College."
The inspector added, "Police arrived promptly, brought the situation under control, and sent students back to their campuses. The nine-member committee formed under the peace agreement is now trying to resolve the matter."
According to eyewitnesses, the clash was triggered by provocative posts shared on pages reportedly operated by students of both colleges.
Authorities from both institutions, as well as police, said the altercation stemmed from a trivial issue.
To prevent frequent clashes among the three colleges, police and representatives from both colleges arranged a verbal "peace agreement" on 9 November, where students of Dhaka and Ideal colleges pledged not to engage in any further violence. City College students were expected to join the event, but remained absent.
