The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested a man who was allegedly behind the circulation of video related to a rape incident of a woman in the Cumilla's Muradnagar Upazila on 26 June.

Shah Poran is the younger brother of the accused Fojor Ali. He was arrested from the Burichang area of Cumilla this afternoon, RAB-11's CPC-2 Deputy Director Mahmudul Hasan told The Business Standard today (3 July).

Poran orchestrated the video release on social media platforms in an attempt to frame his brother Fajor, the RAB official added.

According to the police, the incident occurred on the night of 26 June when Fojor Ali, 38, allegedly entered the victim's residence and raped her while her family members were away. The woman had been staying at her parents' home with her children for about two weeks.

A group of locals, including the four accused, reportedly recorded the incident. They assaulted the woman and Fojor, who reportedly had a personal conflict with his brother Shah Poran.

The video, which surfaced online two days later, prompted widespread condemnation.

The victim filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, leading to the arrest of Fojor in Dhaka's Sayedabad area on 29 June.

He was later put under police custody at Cumilla Medical College Hospital.

The same day, the High Court directed the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to remove all footage of the incident circulating online.

It also instructed authorities to ensure security and medical support for the victim and asked for an update on the investigation to be submitted by 14 July.

Earlier in the day, a Cumilla court granted a three-day remand for four individuals accused of filming and circulating video footage.

The four accused — Sumon, Ramzan, Md Arif, and Md Anik — are residents of Baherchar Pachkitta village in Muradnagar. They were arrested in the case filed under the Pornography Control Act.
