10 injured in BNP-Jamaat clashes in Cumilla
As news of the clashes spread, the Islami Pathagar at Rajar Bazar in Kalikapur union was also vandalised.
At least 10 people were injured during a series of clashes allegedly between supporters of the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami in Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla last night (23 November).
Chauddagram Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Hilal Uddin Ahmed said police visited the spot after receiving information and were still deployed there as of this evening.
"No one has filed a written complaint yet. We will take legal steps if a complaint is lodged," he told The Business Standard.
The violence erupted in Jagannathdighi following an argument, leading to attacks, counterattacks and vandalism, locals said. During the incident, the Shaheed Arafat Rahman Koko Smriti Sangsad office and five motorcycles were vandalised. As news of the clashes spread, the Islami Pathagar at Rajar Bazar in Kalikapur union was also vandalised.
Chauddagram upazila BNP General Secretary Shah Alam Raju claimed that some miscreants were trying to disrupt their peaceful election campaign. "Eight to ten of our supporters were injured in attacks by Jamaat activists on Sunday night," he said.
However, upazila Jamaat Secretary Md Belal Hossain alleged that Jamaat supporter Ismail Hossain was injured in an attack by Chhatra Dal activists and that BNP men vandalised the Islami Pathagar at Rajar Bazar.
