Voters will reject bank looters, corrupt figures in election: Hasnat Abdullah
He said political parties that have nominated loan defaulters, bank looters and corrupt individuals have already been identified by the public
Voters will reject bank looters and corrupt figures in the upcoming national election, Hasnat Abdullah, chief organiser (southern region) of the National Citizen Party (NCP), said today (23 January).
Speaking during street campaigning on the first day of his election drive today, he said, "Many may belong to other parties, but in secret they will cast their votes for me."
The 10-party alliance candidate for the Cumilla-4 constituency said voters would be able to cast their ballots freely this time, adding that people would vote according to their own choice without coercion or intimidation.
He said political parties that have nominated loan defaulters, bank looters and corrupt individuals have already been identified by the public, and that voters would reject them through the election.
Highlighting the impact of corruption, Hasnat said if corruption is not resisted now, people will one day have to pay bribes even to obtain basic services.
"This country must be freed from such a system," he said, stressing that politics should never become a means of recovering returns on "investment".
The NCP leader further said he entered politics to serve people with dignity, not to engage in extortion, tender manipulation or corruption.
He claimed that neither he nor his supporters had collected donations, occupied markets or transport hubs, or engaged in extortion over the past one and a half years.
