A Cumilla court today (3 July) granted three-day remand for four individuals accused of filming and circulating video footage related to a rape incident of an woman in the district's Muradnagar Upazila on 26 June.

Judge Muminul Hoque of the Cognizance Court-11 passed the order at around 12pm following a remand petition filed by the case's investigation officer Sub-Inspector Ruhul Amin of Muradnagar Police Station, confirmed court police's Officer-in-Charge Sadequr Rahman.

The four accused — Sumon, Ramzan, Md Arif, and Md Anik — are residents of Baherchar Pachkitta village in Muradnagar. They were arrested in the case filed under the Pornography Control Act after a video of the assault on the woman was released on social media.

According to the police, the incident occurred on the night of 26 June when Fojor Ali, 38, allegedly entered the victim's residence and raped her while her family members were away. The woman had been staying at her parents' home with her children for about two weeks.

A group of locals, including the four accused, reportedly recorded the incident and also assaulted the woman and Fojor, who had a long-standing personal conflict with his younger brother Shah Poran over the victim.

The video, which surfaced online two days later, prompted widespread condemnation. The victim filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, leading to the arrest of Fojor in Dhaka's Sayedabad area on 29 June. He is currently under police custody at Comilla Medical College Hospital, receiving treatment.

The same day, the High Court directed the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to remove all footage of the incident circulating online. It also instructed authorities to ensure security and medical support for the victim and asked for an update on the investigation to be submitted by 14 July.
