Police recovered three bodies, including a woman's, from separate locations in the capital's Shahbagh area between 9:30pm and 11:45pm yesterday (9 October).
The deceased included an unidentified woman, aged approximately 55, and two unidentified men, both estimated to be around 40 years old. The identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed, said police today (10 October).
Speaking to The Business Standard, Shahbagh Police Station's Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Elias Kabir said the first incident occurred around 9:30pm when a woman was found unconscious in front of the Dhaka University Central Mosque.
Police rushed her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared her dead. She was estimated to be around 55 years old.
Shortly after, around 9:45pm, police recovered another unconscious man from the footpath near the National Eidgah field. The man, believed to be about 40 years old, was also taken to DMCH, where he was pronounced dead by doctors, the SI said.
According to SI Elias, the third incident took place around 11:45pm, when another man, also approximately 40 years old, was found unconscious on the footpath beside the Central Shaheed Minar. He too was declared dead after being taken to DMCH.
None of the three bodies bore any visible injury marks. Initial investigations suggest that the deaths may have resulted from illness or physical weakness. However, the exact causes of death will be determined after autopsy examinations, police said.
"All the dead bodies have been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy," said Masud Alam, deputy commissioner of the Ramna Division, Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Police personnel SI Elias Kabir, Golam Rasool Parvez, and Md Ekramul Haque, who were present at the respective recovery sites, said that despite questioning nearby pedestrians, police could not identify any of the deceased.
Efforts are underway to confirm their identities using technological assistance, SI Elias added.
