Two dead in Bashundhara, including university student
AIUB student Mahmuda Akter and 22-year-old Shawon found dead
Dhaka Metropolitan Police recovered the bodies of two individuals, including a university student, from separate residences in the Bashundhara Residential Area.
Around 3:30 pm, police recovered the body of Sheikh Md. Shawon from a house in I Block, Bashundhara. Shawon, a resident of Kashimpur village in Nawabganj, Dhaka, was the son of Sheikh Md. Minhaj. His father lives abroad, and he was staying with his mother and sister at his uncle's residence. Shawon had been preparing for the IELTS exam.
Officer-in-Charge of Vatara Police Station, Imamul Haque, said Shawon had gone to his room after the pre-dawn Sehri meal. His uncle, Shamim Kausar, found him hanging from a fan after calling him with no response. Police were alerted and recovered the body.
Shawon's body is being sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for post-mortem.
Earlier, at around 8:30 pm on Wednesday, police recovered the body of Mahmuda Akter aka Jerin, a student of American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), from a residence in C Block, Bashundhara. Jerin had been renting a room with other students.
OC Imamul Haque said neighbours alerted police after noticing the room locked for an extended period. Police recovered Jerin's body, found hanging with a scarf from the fan. With no close relatives in Dhaka, her uncle arrived after being notified.
A case of unnatural death has been filed, and her body has been sent for post-mortem.
Police said both deaths are preliminarily suspected to be suicides, though the exact causes will be determined after post-mortem examinations.
