A Dhaka court today (25 February) imposed a travel ban on former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Habibur Rahman amid an ongoing investigation into corruption allegations.
The order was issued by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), court bench assistant Md Riaz Hossain confirmed.
On behalf of the ACC, Deputy Assistant Director Anwarul Masud submitted the application requesting the travel ban.
The petition states that allegations against Habibur and others include bribery, corruption, irregularities in recruitment processes, accumulation of illegal wealth, and money laundering abroad.
The ACC told the court that reliable sources indicated he was attempting to leave the country.
If he manages to flee abroad, there is a strong possibility that the investigation will be hindered. Therefore, restricting his foreign travel is deemed necessary, the petition said.
