Ali Hossain Fakir appointed IGP
Prior to his appointment, Fakir was serving as the chief of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn).
The government has appointed Md Ali Hossain Fakir as the new inspector general of police (IGP), promoting him from the rank of additional IGP.
The announcement was made through a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs today (24 February).

A member of the 15th batch of the BCS (Police) cadre, Fakir hails from Bagerhat.
Md Ali Hossain Fakir was born on 5 April 1968 into a respectable Muslim family under Sadar Police Station in Bagerhat. He obtained his B.Com (Honours) in Management, M.Com, and MBA degrees from the University of Dhaka.
He joined the Bangladesh Police in 1995 through the 15th BCS as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).
During his career, he served with distinction as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) at Police Headquarters and DIG of SPBN. He also performed his duties as Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Superintendent of Police (SP) in Netrokona, Feni, and Magura districts, Commandant of RRF Sylhet, and Commanding Officer of 3 APBn Khulna, 5 APBn Dhaka, and 7 APBn Sylhet.
He served efficiently in United Nations peacekeeping missions in Kosovo and the Ivory Coast on behalf of Bangladesh Police. He has also travelled to the United States, China, and several other countries for training and official purposes.
Currently, he is serving as the Acting President of the Bangladesh Police Service Association, General Secretary of the 15th BCS Forum, Convener of the 15th BCS Police Forum, and is a member of the Khulna Club and the Dhaka Officers' Club.
