Additional traffic police to be deployed in Dhaka during Ramadan
The move aims to ease congestion and ensure smoother movement
Additional traffic police will be deployed across the capital to ease congestion and ensure smooth movement of vehicles and pedestrians during Ramadan, a senior Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) official said yesterday.
Md Anisur Rahman, additional commissioner (Traffic) of the DMP, made the announcement at a coordination meeting with representatives of shopping malls and business communities at the DMP headquarters.
He urged business owners to remain vigilant alongside police to keep roads free from congestion and ensure pedestrians can move freely on footpaths during Ramadan.
Anisur Rahman also called on shopping mall authorities to deploy volunteers in front of and around their establishments to help manage crowds and traffic flow.
The meeting discussed overall security, law and order, and traffic management at shopping centres across the Dhaka metropolitan area ahead of Ramadan.
Speaking at the meeting, Md Sarwar, additional commissioner (Admin) of DMP, said traffic congestion remains one of the major challenges in the city.
He said additional police personnel, alongside members of the Traffic and Crime divisions, will be deployed during Ramadan to reduce congestion.
Sarwar urged all to comply with traffic rules and expressed hope that Ramadan would pass smoothly with cooperation from all quarters.
Senior DMP officials, including joint and deputy police commissioners, as well as representatives of shopping malls and business bodies, attended the meeting.
