Mitford murder: Accused Mahin confesses to killing Sohag
The Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court recorded the statement and subsequently sent him to jail

One of the main accused has confessed to his involvement in the brutal killing of scrap metal trader Lal Chand alias Md Sohag in front of Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital in Old Dhaka on 9 July.
The accused Mahmudul Hasan Mahin, 41, gave his confessional statement before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mahbubur Rahman today (20 July), according to court sources.
The court recorded the statement and subsequently sent him to jail.
Following the end of his second five-day remand period, police produced Mohin before the court.
The application for recording the confession was submitted by Kotwali Police Station officer-in-charge Md Moniruzzaman, investigating officer of the case.
Earlier, Mohin was placed on two separate five-day remands — first on 10 July, and then again on 15 July.
With Mahin's confession, the number of accused who have admitted involvement in Sohag's murder has now risen to four.
On 9 July around 6pm, Sohag was brutally murdered near Gate 3 of Mitford Hospital. His attackers repeatedly smashed his head and body with a large concrete boulder. Video footage of the killing went viral.
The following day, Sohag's elder sister Monjuara Begum filed a murder case with Kotwali Police Station, naming 19 people and including 15 to 20 unidentified individuals. In connection with the same incident, police also filed a separate case under the Arms Act.
A total of nine suspects have been arrested so far.
Sohag, son of Yusuf Ali Howlader of Purbo Namabari village in Keraniganj Model Thana, had been running a scrap business for years on Rajani Ghosh Lane, near Mitford Hospital.
