Mitford murder trial: Three more witnesses testify, next hearing on 28 Aug
The court has now recorded statements from four witnesses in the case.
A Dhaka court today (13 August) recorded the testimonies of three more witnesses in the murder case filed over the killing of scrap trader Lal Chand, also known as Md Sohag, in front of Sir Salimullah Medical College and Hospital, widely known as Mitford Hospital, in Old Dhaka.
The witnesses gave their statements before the Judge Md Alamgir of Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court-1. Defence lawyers later cross-examined them.
Following the hearing, the court fixed 28 August for the next round of witness testimony, said ASM Shahadat Ali, bench assistant of the concerned court.

The witnesses who testified were Ismail, Babul and Hasan. With their testimonies, the court has now recorded statements from four witnesses in the case.
Earlier, the trial formally entered the testimony stage on 3 August with the deposition of the complainant, Manjuara Begum.
The 21 accused in the case are Mahmud Hasan Mohin, Almgir, Monir alias Lamba Monir, Nannu alias Nannu Kazi, Sajib alias Sajib Bepari, Titon Gazi, Tarek Rahman Robin, Zahirul Islam, Parvez, Sagar, Rizwan Uddin alias Abhijit Basu alias Abhi, Ruman Bepari, Abir Hossain, Zahir, Imran Hossain, Sharafat alias Shafiul Islam, Hossain Chowkidar, Ziauddin Rajib, Sarwar Hossain Titu, Monir alias Chhoto Monir and Apu Das.
Of them, 10 are in jail, eight remain absconding, and three are out on bail.
According to the case statement, a group of people attacked Sohag with stones and sharp weapons on a road in Rajani Ghosh Lane near Gate No. 3 of Mitford Hospital at around 6pm on 9 July 2025, killing him on the spot.
The following day, Sohag's elder sister, Manjuara Begum, filed a murder case with Kotwali Police Station against 19 people. Another 15 to 20 unidentified individuals were also named as accused.
After completing the investigation, the then officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, Moniruzzaman, submitted a charge sheet against 21 people on 8 December 2025. He also recommended that 10 suspects be discharged due to a lack of evidence.
However, the court later ordered a fresh investigation, citing flaws in the initial probe.
On 10 May this year, Kotwali Police Station Inspector Shah Md Faisal Ahmed submitted a supplementary charge sheet against the same 21 accused after conducting a reinvestigation.
On 12 January, the same court framed charges against the accused and ordered the trial to begin.
