Gold found in Hasina's bank lockers not entirely her own: ACC
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has said the entire 832.51 bhori of gold ornaments found in two lockers belonging to Sheikh Hasina at the Principal Branch of Agrani Bank are not solely owned by the ousted prime minister.
ACC Director General Md Akhtar Hossain, while speaking to reporters in Dhaka today (Wednesday), said that the gold belongs partially to Hasina herself, with the remainder belonging to her sister, Sheikh Rehana, and her daughter, Saima Wazed Putul.
He said approximately 422.26 bhori of gold were found in Locker 751, registered under the names of Sheikh Hasina and Saima Wazed Putul, while 410.25 bhori were discovered in Locker 753, held jointly by Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana.
According to the ACC, Sheikh Hasina had declared three lockers in her 2007 wealth statement – two at Agrani Bank and one at Pubali Bank. The Pubali Bank locker, however, contained nothing except an empty jute bag.
In her affidavit submitted to the Election Commission ahead of the 2024 polls, Hasina declared gold and other ornaments worth Tk13.25 lakh in her own name.
Responding to questions from reporters, Akhtar said many of the ornaments found in the lockers included markings indicating ownership. "Some items belong to Sheikh Hasina personally, while others are marked for her daughter and her sister. Each piece has a distinct marking, and our investigation team will verify them individually," he said.
