Govt seeks NBR action plan to achieve Tk6.04 lakh crore revenue target
The prime minister's economic affairs adviser asked the revenue authority to identify potential revenue sources, estimate collections and outline challenges to meeting the target.

The government has asked the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to prepare a detailed strategy and action plan for achieving the Tk6.04 lakh crore revenue collection target set for the current fiscal year 2026-27.
Professor Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, adviser to the prime minister on economic affairs, sought details on potential revenue-generating sectors, the amount of revenue that could be collected from those sectors and the challenges the NBR may face in meeting the target during a meeting with senior revenue officials today (27 July).

The meeting was held at the NBR headquarters in Agargaon, Dhaka, officials present at the meeting told The Business Standard.
A senior NBR official, speaking to TBS on condition of anonymity, said the Customs and VAT wings presented their assessments of potential revenue sources and estimated collections for the current fiscal year.
"The Customs and VAT wings made a presentation on potential sources of revenue and the amount that could potentially be collected in the current fiscal year. The Income Tax wing also made a separate presentation on the issue," the official said.
According to the official, the adviser assured the NBR of the government's full support in achieving the ambitious revenue collection target.
NBR Chairman Ahsan Habib, senior board members and other high-ranking officials attended the meeting.
Attempts to contact NBR Chairman Ahsan Habib for comment were unsuccessful. Calls to Adviser Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir also went unanswered.
