Indictment hearing against Hasina, 33 others in July Uprising murder case deferred to 13 August

A Dhaka court has deferred the indictment hearing against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 33 others in the murder case of truck driver Md Hossain, killed during the July Uprising, setting 13 August as the new date.
Judge Robiul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge's Court-4 passed the order today (26 July).
Defence lawyer Farzana Yasmin Rakhi said the prosecution sought time as arrested accused Furkan Hossain was not produced in court.

The defence also sought time, prompting the court to defer the hearing, she added.
According to the lawyer, four of the 34 accused in custody were produced in court, while eight out on bail appeared. The remaining accused are absconding.
The case statement says Md Hossain, a truck driver, was shot dead in Mohammadpur's Chand Udyan area on 19 July 2024 during the Students Against Discrimination movement.
He had parked his truck in Gabtoli and was returning home when he was struck by gunfire and died on the spot.
His mother, Rina Begum, filed a murder case at Mohammadpur Police Station on 31 August 2024.
On 23 November last year, investigating officer Sub-Inspector Akramuzzaman submitted the charge sheet against Sheikh Hasina and 33 others.
Other accused include former road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan, former foreign minister Hasan Mahmud, former textiles minister Jahangir Kabir Nanok, former state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, former lawmaker Sadek Khan, Chhatra League President Saddam Hossain and General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Enan, along with several others.
Among the accused, Palak, Sadek Khan, Furkan Hossain and Shahjahan Khan are currently in jail.
