What gold items were found in Hasina's Agrani Bank vaults
ACC says the 832.51 bhori of gold found in the two lockers does not solely belong to the ousted prime minister
A total of 832 bhori of gold ornaments were recovered from two vaults linked to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina at Agrani Bank's principal branch in Dhaka's Motijheel yesterday (25 November).
According to officials of the National Board of Revenue's Central Intelligence Cell (CIC), vaults numbered 751 and 753 were opened by a joint team of the CIC and other government agencies, following Bangladesh Bank regulations.
However, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has clarified that the 832.51 bhori of gold found in the two lockers does not solely belong to the former prime minister.
Speaking to reporters in Dhaka today (26 November), ACC Director General Md Akhtar Hossain said the gold is jointly owned by Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, and her daughter Saima Wazed Putul.
He said approximately 422.26 bhori of gold were found in Locker 751, registered under the names of Sheikh Hasina and Saima Wazed Putul, while 410.25 bhori were recovered from Locker 753, jointly held by Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana.
Income, assets and eight other types of information were made mandatory to disclose in affidavits starting from the 2008 election.
In her affidavit for the 2008 national election, Hasina declared jewellery made of gold and other precious metals and stones worth Tk13.25 lakh (including quantity and value at the time of acquisition).
An analysis of the affidavits shows that the value of gold and precious metals declared by Hasina remained unchanged in the affidavits submitted for the 2008, 2011 and 2024 elections.
However, in 2008, jewellery made of gold and other precious metals and stones worth Tk2,500 was declared under her husband's name.
