Benazir extradition: ACC to send documents UAE sought within 2 days
According to ACC sources, the fugitive former inspector general of police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed was arrested by Dubai Police through Interpol in mid-June.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is preparing additional information and explanations requested by Dubai Police as part of the process to extradite former inspector general of police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed to Bangladesh.
Confirming the matter to The Business Standard today (21 July), ACC Public Relations Officer Md Akhtarul Islam said the documents are expected to be sent through the Ministry of Home Affairs within the next two days.

He added that after Benazir was arrested by Dubai Police through Interpol, the Dubai authorities sought information from the Bangladesh government and the ACC regarding his extradition. "In response, the investigation officer submitted the required documents through the Ministry of Home Affairs."
Akhtarul further said, "Recently, Dubai Police sent another letter seeking additional clarification and clearance on several issues related to the case. The ACC has received the letter, and the investigation officer concerned is now preparing the response."
He informed that requested explanations and supporting documents would be sent to Dubai Police through the Ministry of Home Affairs very soon.
According to ACC sources, in mid-June, Dubai Police arrested the fugitive former IGP through Interpol. The ACC then moved swiftly to bring him back to Bangladesh, preparing the required extradition documents and forwarding them to the relevant authorities within two days.
About a month after the extradition request was submitted, Dubai Police gave its in-principle consent to return Benazir to Bangladesh but sought further clarification on several issues related to the cases before proceeding.
The ACC is now preparing its response.
The ACC has filed six cases against Benazir Ahmed on charges including amassing illegal wealth, concealing asset information and passport forgery.
Investigators have identified a substantial amount of movable and immovable assets allegedly owned by Benazir and his family.
A court has already accepted the charge sheet in one case involving the alleged acquisition of nearly Tk74 crore in illegal wealth and concealment of asset information, and the trial has begun.
Investigations and judicial proceedings in the remaining cases are also underway.
