Manik allegedly abused his authority during his tenure as judge to unlawfully acquire the assets

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against retired Supreme Court justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik on charges of amassing Tk5.39 crore in illegal wealth and acquiring a government plot through abuse of power while serving as a judge.
ACC Director General Akhtar Hossain confirmed the matter to journalists today (11 September).
According to ACC sources, Manik allegedly abused his authority during his tenure as a judge to unlawfully acquire the assets. The case also accuses him and six others of colluding in the fraudulent land allocation under the Purbachal New Town project of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk).
The other accused are Kashmiri Kamal, wife of former Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal; former Rajuk chairman Engineer Md Nurul Huda; Rajuk member (Finance) Md Abu Bakkar Sikdar; former Joint Secretary and member (Development) M Mahbubul Alam; former chairman GM Zainal Abedin Bhuiyan; and former member Abdul Hai.
The case statement alleges that the accused violated Rule 9 of The Dhaka Improvement Trust (Allotment of Lands) Rules, 1969 by abusing their official powers. It says they submitted false affidavits and arranged allocation of plot no. 036, road 116, sector 16, code 188202 in Purbachal's new township project in the name of the original allottee.
Later, by breaching clauses 22 and 23 of the lease deed, the accused allegedly transferred the ownership and misappropriated the plot.
