ACC summons Dhaka North administrator Azaz over abuse of power, corruption allegations
According to ACC, Azaz will be questioned over several DNCC-related matters
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Azaz for questioning over allegations of abuse of power, irregularities, corruption and bribery.
The DNCC administrator has been asked to appear before investigators at the commission's Segunbagicha office at 10am on 29 January, a senior ACC official confirmed to The Business Standard today (26 January).
The summon follows an ACC investigation launched on 30 November last year into the allegations against Azaz. A two-member probe team, led by ACC Assistant Director Md Ashikur Rahman, is handling the inquiry.
According to an ACC letter issued on 21 January, Azaz will be questioned over several DNCC-related matters, including the lease of Gabtoli cattle market, the e-rickshaw project, alleged occupation of Borak Tower or Hotel Sheraton, allocation of shops at Banani kitchen market, construction and allocation of shops in the parking area of Khilgaon Taltola Super Market, the city corporation's van service, and the allocation of shops on footpaths.
The interim government appointed Mohammad Azaz as DNCC administrator for a one-year term on 12 February last year.
