11 Bangladeshis return after serving jail in India
Eleven Bangladeshi nationals returned home yesterday (15 May) after serving prison sentences in India for illegal entry.
They were repatriated through the Akhaura immigration checkpost, facilitated by the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala.
The returnees are Farzana Ahmed Nipa from Cumilla, Md Ibrahim from Feni, Helal Jamaddar from Bagerhat, Akramul Islam from Rajshahi, Kabir Sheikh from Chapainawabganj, and Rahul Sheikh, Ashraful Haque, Sumon Rana, Badrul Islam, Abdul Mannan, and Ruhul Amin.

According to officials, they had entered India illegally with the help of brokers and were arrested by Indian law enforcement agencies around eight to nine months ago.
Almas Hossain, first secretary at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala, sadi following their arrests, Indian courts sentenced them to jail for illegal entry.
After completing their sentences and verifying their Bangladeshi citizenship, they were handed over to authorities at the border, he added.
Consular Assistant Omar Sharif, Akhaura Upazila Executive Officer GM Rashedul Islam, and Immigration Police OC Abdus Sattar were among those present during the handover.
