Early results show BNP candidates lead in Dhaka-8, 9, 11, 16; Jamaat's Shafiqur in 15
In Dhaka-9, BNP-nominated candidate Habibur Rashid Habib is leading independent candidate Tasnim Jara by 5,113 votes in seven polling centres
In the closely watched Dhaka-8 constituency, BNP-nominated candidate Mirza Abbas is leading Jamaat-led 11-party alliance candidate Nasiruddin Patwary by 1,997 votes, according to unofficial results from 17 polling centres.
As of 9:15pm today (12 February), Abbas, a BNP Standing Committee member, bagged 9,551 votes, while Patwary, chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP), trailed with 7,554 votes. However, at two polling centres, Patwary was ahead of Abbas.
Polling began at 7:30am and concluded at 4:30pm. Nationwide, voting took place at 36,031 of 42,651 centres, with voter turnout recorded at 47.91% by 2pm, according to the Election Commission.
In Dhaka-9, BNP-nominated candidate Habibur Rashid Habib is leading independent candidate Tasnim Jara by 5,113 votes in seven polling centres.
According to results from the seven centres, Habib secured a total of 6,058 votes, while Tasnim Jara received 945 votes. Javed Mia Rasin, the candidate of the NCP backed by the Jamaat-led 11-party alliance, obtained 1,678 votes.
In Dhaka-11, BNP candidate MA Quayum secured a lead over NCP Chief Nahid Islam in three polling centres, according to unofficial results.
At centre No 54 at Rampura Ekramunessa High School, which has 2,269 registered voters, a total of 861 valid votes were cast. Of them, MA Quayum received 485 votes, while Nahid Islam secured 319 votes.
In centre No 52, with 2,261 registered voters, 982 votes were cast. Quayum bagged 495 votes at the centre, while Nahid Islam obtained 440 votes. At centre No 53, out of 2,276 registered voters, 883 votes were cast. The BNP candidate received 466 votes, whereas Nahid Islam secured 383 votes.
In Dhaka-16, BNP candidate Aminul Huq took a lead of 2,497 votes over Jamaat candidate Abdul Baten at 44 polling centres in the area.
According to unofficial results, Colonel Abdul Baten of Jamaat secured 26,342 votes, while BNP candidate Aminul Haque received 28,839 votes. The results were confirmed by Presiding Officer Md Moniruzzaman.
Shafiqur leads in Dhaka-15
Meanwhile, in Dhaka-15, Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman secured a lead over his rival BNP candidate Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton in 24 polling centres, according to unofficial results.
After the results, Jamaat Ameer holds 13,662 votes while Milton holds 11,212 votes.
