Netrokona-4: Lutfuzzaman Babar secures landslide victory

BNP leader and former state minister for home affairs, Lutfuzzaman Babar, has secured a massive victory in the Netrokona-4 (Mohanganj-Madan-Khaliajuri) constituency, defeating his nearest rival by a margin of over 1.2 lakh votes.
According to unofficial results released by the district election office Thursday night (12 February), Babar bagged 1,60,801 votes with the "Sheaf of Paddy" symbol, reports Prothom Alo.
His nearest competitor, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Md Al-Helal, trailing far behind, polled 39,840 votes with the "Scales" symbol.
The margin of victory stands at a staggering 1,20,961 votes, underscoring Babar's strong local influence. This marks the fourth time he has been elected to parliament from this seat.
Other contestants in the fray included Jolly Talukdar of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), who received 3,359 votes; Champa Rani Sarkar of the Revolutionary Workers Party, who secured 282 votes; and Md Mukhlesur Rahman of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, who polled 2,025 votes.
The Netrokona-4 constituency has a total of 375,308 registered voters across 150 polling centres.
Babar, whose ancestral home is in the Bariddera area of Madan upazila, saw a wave of support across the three upazilas as voters returned to the polls in the country's first general election in the post-5 August landscape.
