BNP sweeps 18 of 19 seats in Sylhet division, Khelafat Majlis secures one
The returning officer and Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Md Sarwar Alam formally announced the unofficial results for Sylhet’s six constituencies around 2am on Friday (13 February).
Sylhet Division witnessed a decisive victory for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in the 13th national parliamentary elections, with the party claiming 18 of the division's 19 seats. The 11-party alliance's Khelafat Majlis secured one seat, while Jamaat-e-Islami failed to win any.
The returning officer and Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Md Sarwar Alam formally announced the unofficial results for Sylhet's six constituencies around 2am on Friday (13 February).
According to the declared figures, BNP's Khandakar Abdul Muktadir won Sylhet-1 with 176,000 votes, defeating Jamaat-e-Islami's Habibur Rahman, who secured 134,049 votes. Other candidates trailed far behind.
In Sylhet-2, BNP candidate Tahsina Rushdir Luna secured victory with 117,956 votes, while Khelafat Majlis contender Muntasir Ali received 38,635 votes.
Sylhet-3 went to BNP's MA Malique, who polled 115,450 votes. His nearest rival, 11-party alliance candidate Musleh Uddin Raju of Khelafat Majlis, received 75,674 votes.
BNP's Ariful Haque Chowdhury recorded the largest margin in Sylhet-4, securing 186,846 votes against Jamaat-e-Islami's Zainal Abedin, who polled 71,391 votes.
In Sylhet-5, Khelafat Majlis leader Mufti Abul Hasan emerged victorious with 79,355 votes. BNP alliance candidate Ubaidullah Farooq secured 69,774 votes, while BNP rebel Mamunur Rashid Chaksu Mamun received 54,614 votes.
Sylhet-6 was won by BNP's Emran Ahmed Chowdhury with 109,107 votes, narrowly ahead of Jamaat-e-Islami's Mohammad Selim Uddin, who secured 101,559 votes.
Beyond Sylhet district, BNP swept all five seats in Sunamganj, all four constituencies in Moulvibazar, and all four seats in Habiganj, sealing a near-clean sweep across the north-eastern region.
