Indian national held for illegal entry along Kushtia border
The detainee is a resident of Sargachhi Ashram village of Murshidabad
An Indian national was detained by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) while attempting to enter Bangladesh illegally along the Kushtia border this afternoon (24 December), BGB officials said.
The detention took place at around 12:45pm in the Char Chilmari Border Outpost (BOP) area under Kushtia BGB Battalion-47. A BGB patrol team, led by Nayek Md Asaduzzaman, detained the individual from the Dighirchar area, about 50 yards inside Bangladesh from border pillar 84/1-S.
The detainee was identified as M Babu, 45, a resident of Sargachhi Ashram village under Beldanga Police Station in Murshidabad district of West Bengal, India.
According to BGB sources, goods recovered from the detainee were estimated to be worth around Tk7,000.
After initial interrogation, the process of handing over the detained Indian national to Daulatpur police station is underway for further legal action.
Kushtia BGB Battalion-47 officials said the force remains firm in ensuring overall border security, preventing illegal infiltration and curbing all forms of criminal activities, including smuggling.
Regular patrol operations in the border areas will continue as part of these efforts, it added.
