Ukhiya joint operation: Rohingyas sent back to camps, local landlords fined for renting homes

Ahead of the upcoming national elections, a joint force led by the army has launched operations in Ukhiya of Cox's Bazar against Rohingyas living illegally outside the camps, with landlords fined for renting out houses to them.
The operation was carried out from early morning to noon today (8 February), during which Rohingyas were detained and later sent back to their respective camps.
Landlords who had rented out houses to the Rohingyas were fined a total of Tk1,57,000, said Executive Magistrate Manjur Bin Afnan of the district administration, who conducted the mobile court.
He said the joint force has remained active on the ground under army leadership to ensure a peaceful and smooth election. As part of this effort, the operation was conducted in Balukhali and the surrounding areas of Ukhiya, targeting Rohingyas living illegally outside the camps.
According to the executive magistrate, the Rohingyas had been living with their families for a long time without permission from or informing the camp authorities. After being informed, the mobile court visited the spot. Following verification, they were sent back to the camps through higher authorities.
The landlords were fined and warned against renting out houses to Rohingyas in the future.
Earlier, the joint force conducted several operations in the Burma Colony area of Dohazari in Chattogram and nearby locations, where Rohingyas were detained and later sent back to the camps.
