Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Ishaq Dar have congratulated Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader Tarique Rahman on his party's victory in Bangladesh's parliamentary elections.
In a message posted on X, Sharif extended his "warmest felicitations" to Tarique for leading the BNP to a "resounding victory" and congratulated the people of Bangladesh on the successful conduct of the polls. He said he looked forward to working closely with the new leadership in Dhaka to further strengthen the two countries' "historic, brotherly multifaceted bilateral relations" and to advance shared goals of peace, stability and development in South Asia and beyond.
President Dar also conveyed his congratulations to Tarique, expressing confidence that under his leadership Bangladesh would continue its journey toward "peace, progress, and prosperity." He reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation on the basis of sovereign equality and mutual respect, and congratulated the people of Bangladesh on what he described as a successful democratic transition.
