BNP’s 'absolute victory' a triumph for democracy: Mahdi Amin
He also pledged that every citizen of Bangladesh will see their lives transformed under the leadership of Tarique Rahman
BNP Election Steering Committee spokesperson Mahdi Amin today (13 February) said the party's "absolute majority" in the 13th national election is a victory for democracy and Bangladesh.
Speaking to reporters in front of the party's Gulshan office, Mahdi Amin said the results reflect the aspirations of the country's people.
"The BNP is Bangladesh's largest and most popular party, closely tied to the aspirations and sentiments of the people. This overwhelming victory reflects the extraordinary support for a party that upholds Bangladesh's independence, sovereignty, and nationalism. Today's win is not just BNP's, but a victory for democracy in Bangladesh," he said.
Mahdi Amin said, "We firmly believe that our leader, Tarique Rahman, has earned the trust, support, and affection of the people. Inshallah, as a future prime minister, he will safeguard the rights and freedoms of every citizen in Bangladesh."
He added, "He [Tarique] will ensure state ownership where needed, and the next BNP government will deliver an accountable, transparent, and people-focused administration, meeting the expectations of the people."
Reflecting on the struggles behind the democratic journey, Mahdi said, "This government is built on the sacrifices of many martyrs – through tax struggles, enforced disappearances, murders, assaults, and human rights violations. Inshallah, our leader will honour the hopes of the mothers of the martyrs."
He also pledged that every citizen of Bangladesh will see their lives transformed under the leadership of Tarique Rahman.
"Problems will be addressed, and the independence, sovereignty, and democracy of our country will be preserved. We are confident that our leader will ensure this," he added.
He also expressed gratitude to global leaders who sent congratulatory messages following the election results.
"This is a gracious gesture. Our leader will respond to them in due course."
