5.6 magnitude quake in Bhutan shakes Dhaka, parts of Bangladesh
The epicentre of the earthquake, measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale, was located in Bhutan.
An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale was felt in Dhaka and several parts of Bangladesh around 11:37pm on Saturday (7 June).
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the earthquake occurred at 11:36:39 pm (BST), with its epicentre located at latitude 27.64°N and longitude 89.84°E in Bhutan.
The epicentre was about 432 kilometres north of the BMD Seismic Centre in Agargaon, Dhaka.
The quake was classified as "moderate" and originated at a depth of 35 kilometres.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the epicentre of the earthquake, measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale, was located in Bhutan.
No immediate reports of damage or casualties have been confirmed.
The tremor was also felt in Khulna, Gopalganj, Dinajpur, and Rangpur, among other districts.
