“Today marks a fresh beginning for the journey of democracy in Bangladesh,” he said

The candidate for the Thakurgaon-1 (Sadar) constituency voted at Thakurgaon Government Girls' High School polling centre after offering prayers at the grave of his parents in the morning.

"We are very happy today. After overcoming many obstacles, much bloodshed, and many sacrifices, this day has begun. People of the country have had to make many sacrifices for this day," he said.
He also expressed hope that the election would be conducted peacefully.
"'The election will be free, fair, neutral, and peaceful. This election will begin a new chapter for Bangladesh,'" Fakhrul said.
Replying to a query about some unpleasant incidents last night, he said, "Some evil forces who want to sabotage the elections are doing these things. We hope they will be defeated."
