No plan on abolishing Bangla, History, Philosophy undergraduate programmes: Edu minister
There has been no discussion on curtailing undergraduate programmes such as Bangla, History and Philosophy, said Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon.
The minister made the statement in response to a question from reporters regarding a recent rumour circulating on social media that undergraduate programmes in Bangla, History and Philosophy are being discontinued.
ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said, "There is no such plan to curtail subjects, or remove subjects. We talked about including subjects depending on world demand.
"Today's discussion at the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) meeting was about how we can improve our education sector following market driven demand and industry needs," he added.
The minister also said, there are shortage of teachers in different disciplines and measures are being taken to combat that.
Earlier, officials of the ministry said, discussions on higher education reform and curriculum review are ongoing at different levels. However, there was no policy decision to stop undergraduate programmes in subjects such as Bangla, History or Philosophy.
Meanwhile, the ministry has recently indicated plans for curriculum reforms for primary and secondary education in 2027 and the inclusion of some new subjects.
