Amir Khasru secures big win in Chattogram-11
Jamaat candidate Mohammad Shafiul Alam congratulated Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on his victory.
BNP candidate Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury won Chattogram-11 (Chattogram Bandar-Patenga) in the 13th national election, defeating rivals from Jamaat and other parties, according to final results announced by Returning Officer Mohammad Belayet Hossain Chowdhury after counting votes, including postal ballots.
Amir Khasru, running under the paddy sheaf symbol, received 115,999 votes, while his nearest rival, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Md Shafiqul Alam (scale symbol), secured 76,681 votes.
Other contenders included Muhammad Abu Taher of Islamic Front Bangladesh (chair symbol), who polled 5,127 votes, and Md Nur Uddin of Islami Andolan Bangladesh (hand fan symbol), who received 2,557 votes.
According to the returning officer's office, there were 495,278 registered voters across 144 polling centres, including postal ballots. A total of 206,682 voters cast their ballots, of which 202,518 were valid. 4,164 votes were invalidated for various reasons, resulting in a voter turnout of 41.73%.
In the referendum, 'Yes' votes reached 128,498, while 'No' votes were 68,008.
Jamaat candidate congratulates Khasru
Jamaat candidate Mohammad Shafiul Alam has congratulated Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on his victory.
In a Facebook post on Thursday night (12 February), Shafiul said the people's verdict in a democratic process is final and must be respected.
"In a democratic process, the people's mandate is final. We honour and welcome that decision," he said.
He also expressed gratitude to his supporters in Chattogram-11 who worked tirelessly for the Daripalla symbol, saying he remains thankful for their dedication and effort.
"I have always stood by you, I am with you now, and I will continue to do so, Inshallah," he said.
