High-profile candidates who won in 13th parliamentary election
Results show both tight races and big margins
Several candidates who were at the centre of political attention during the 13th parliamentary election have secured victories in their respective constituencies, according to unofficial results.
Among them were Md Nahid Islam, Abdul Hannan Masud, Fazlur Rahman, Rumeen Farhana, and Nurul Haque Nur. Some races were closely fought, while others ended in wide margins.
In Dhaka-11, NCP candidate Nahid Islam was unofficially declared elected after securing 93,872 votes with the Shapla Koli symbol. His nearest rival, MA Quayum, received 91,833 votes. The margin was 2,039 votes.
In Noakhali-6 (Hatia), 11-party alliance candidate Abdul Hannan Masud was unofficially declared elected after securing 91,899 votes with the Shapla Koli symbol. BNP-nominated Mahbuber Rahman Samim received 64,021 votes. The margin stood at 27,878 votes.
In Kishoreganj-4 (Itna-Mithamoin-Astagram), BNP candidate and freedom fighter Fazlur Rahman won by a wide margin. He secured 132,472 votes with the sheaf of paddy symbol, while his nearest rival, Rokan Reza Sheikh, who contested with the scales symbol, received 57,829 votes. The margin was 74,643 votes.
In Brahmanbaria-2 (Sarail, Ashuganj, and part of Bijoynagar), independent candidate Rumeen Farhana won with 118,547 votes under the duck symbol. Her nearest rival, Maulana Junaed Al Habib, received 80,434 votes. The margin was 38,113 votes.
In Patuakhali-3, Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur won the seat with 97,323 votes under the truck symbol. His rival Hasan Mamun secured 81,361 votes. The margin was 15,962 votes.
In Cumilla-4 (Debidwar), 11-party electoral alliance nominee and chief organiser (south region) of the NCP Hasnat Abdullah was unofficially declared elected after securing 166,583 votes with the Shapla Koli symbol. His nearest rival, BNP-backed Gono Odhikar Parishad candidate Jasim Uddin, received 49,885 votes under the truck symbol.
