One person is dead and at least 12 others were injured in a mass shooting during a party at a western North Carolina residence in United States early Sunday (1 June), according to the Catawba County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities reported that one victim died at the scene, while another remains in critical condition. Ten more victims are being treated for serious injuries at local hospitals.
The Catawba County Sheriff's Office, along with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and Hickory Police Department, is conducting a joint investigation. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is also assisting in the case.
So far, no arrests have been made, and officials have not disclosed how many shots were fired. The identities and ages of the victims have not yet been released.
During a press briefing, officials noted that the street where the incident occurred is typically quiet.
