On 17 January 2026, President Donald Trump threatened higher tariffs on eight European countries, including Denmark, France and Germany, over the Greenland dispute. The EU planned an emergency summit and considered retaliatory measures, including tariffs of up to €93 billion ($107.7 billion), if the US proceeded.
