BNP leaders have filed two cases against 300 leaders and activists of Awami League (AL), including former mayor of Barishal Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah, accusing them of attacking BNP leaders and activists, shooting and bombing at rallies.

The cases were registered yesterday (1 October), said Mizanur Rahman, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Model Police Station in Barishal.

He said the cases were filed by BNP leaders Farzana Khan Rozy and Habibur Rahman Mintu.

Besides ex-mayor Sadiq Abdullah, also the general secretary of the Barishal AL, AKM Jahangir, the president of Barishal AL was also named as an accused in the two cases.

In one case, Farzana Khan Rozy, a former associate education secretary of Barishal BNP, alleged that the accused fired bullets and threw bombs at BNP leaders and activists during the party's Black Flag Day program.

This case mentioned 26 named and 60 unnamed individuals.

In another case, Habibur Rahman Mintu, the senior vice-president of the BNP for Raipasha-Korapur Union under Barishal Sadar upazila, alleged that they were shot at, attacked, and beaten under the leadership of the AL leaders when participating in a protest led by the Anti-discrimination Student Movement at Hatem Ali College Chowmatha in the city.

This case mentioned 38 named and 200 unnamed individuals.

In both cases, the plaintiffs claimed they had not filed any lawsuits previously due to the absence of the rule of law.

They said they filed these cases hoping for justice after seeing impartial law enforcement recently.
