Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) has donated one-day salary of their employees to Gonoshasthaya Kendra for developing kits to detect the novel coronavirus.

Shahana Huda, senior coordinator of MJF's Media and Communications, confirmed the matter to The Business Standard today.

She also said, "Manusher Jonno Foundation is also raising coronavirus awareness campaigns among more than 20 lakh people in 215 upazilas under 53 districts through its 141 partner organisations.

Earlier on March 19, the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) gave approval to Gonoshasthaya Kendra to import raw materials, which are needed to make the coronavirus-detection kit named – "Rapid Dot Blot". 

After getting the approval, Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury said, "We will be able to supply at least 20,000 units of kits immediately a day after getting approval for sales.

He also said, Gonoshasthaya Kendra can provide a kit at Tk350. The test report will be available within 5 to 15 minutes.

Gonoshasthaya Kendra will import raw materials from the United Kingdom. The raw materials will reach Dhaka within two or three days. After developing the kit, samples of the testing kit will be submitted to the Directorate of Drug Administration within 15 days for approval.

Bangladesh confirmed four deaths from the novel coronavirus and 39 cases till date.

About 392,780 people around the world have been infected with the deadly virus and 17,159 deaths were reportedly globally till date.
