Chaos erupts at July martyrs' reception over 'inconsistencies' in documentary

A commotion broke out during a reception and discussion programme organised for the families of those who died during the July Uprising and injured "July warriors" following the screening of a video documentary at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka today (5 August).
The incident unfolded shortly after the screening of a video documentary on contemporary aspects of the July Uprising, arranged by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs to mark July Mass Uprising Day.
Tensions escalated rapidly across the venue as a section of the injured victims and martyrs' family members began chanting "Bhua! Bhua!" ("Fake! Fake!") slogans, joined by some central leaders and activists of the National Citizen Party.

Addressing the commotion from the stage, Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan repeatedly appealed for calm.
However, at one point, State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraque Hossain took the microphone and told the attendees, "You have come here to display your ignorance."
This remark, by a state minister, triggered renewed chaos and shouting among the audience.
Subsequently, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed took the microphone multiple times to call for order and restore calm in the venue.
Stepping onto the stage to pacify the crowd, NCP Member Secretary Akhter Hossen asked the audience to remain seated quietly.
He noted that the video documentary contained "numerous inconsistencies", assuring the gathering that they would discuss the issues with the authorities promptly to seek a resolution.
Following Akhter's statement, Minister Ahmed Azam Khan spoke again from the stage, assuring the attendees, "If there are any inconsistencies in the video documentary, we will identify those issues and discuss them with you and take necessary action."
The programme resumed its proceedings after the situation eventually cooled down.
Earlier, the ceremony commenced at 12pm with a recitation from the Holy Qur'an, featuring Acting President Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, as the chief guest.
