A part of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Line-3, from Uttara-Tongi, was opened to the public today.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader opened two lanes of the Tongi flyover under BRT Line-3 project on Sunday (6 November).

"Two lanes of the flyover towards the capital have been opened to reduce the suffering of traffic congestion on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway," Obaidul Quader said while inaugurating the lanes.

"There were many criticisms regarding the public suffering due to the construction work of this project. Many even missed flights," he said, adding, "By the first week of June next year, the BRT Line-3 project would be completed and opened to the public."

"The line was supposed to go all the way to Sadarghat. But I said 'no' as we could barely endure the suffering of one BRT project," he added.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate 100 bridges tomorrow, the minister said.

"BNP only knows how to criticise. They could not show any visible work for the development of the people of the country," he added.

Stating that the national election will be held at the end of next year or the beginning of 2024, Obaidul Quader said that PM Hasina has instructed not to undertake any mega project before the election.

"Already the Gazupur to Tangail road, Elenga road is near completion," the minister further said.
