Joint forces arrest 35 with hand bombs, drugs in Tongi

Joint forces arrested 35 people along with hand bombs, drugs and locally made weapons during an operation in Tongi under Gazipur Metropolitan City early today (23 January).
The operation was conducted at the Haji Mazar slum in the Tongi Bazar are, known as a drug-prone hotspot, by a task force comprising members of the Bangladesh Army, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Police and the District Administration.

He said the raid was carried out at dawn based on intelligence information, with law enforcers cordoning off the slum and conducting searches in his presence.
During the operation, the joint forces recovered 500 grams of heroin, 347 yaba tablets, two locally made weapons, and three hand bombs. The detainees were later handed over to Tongi East and Tongi West police stations.
Abu Bakkar Siddique said the drive was part of preventive measures to curb potential unrest ahead of the upcoming election.
He added that cases would be filed and the detainees would be shown arrested and produced before the court after completion of legal formalities.
Meanwhile, Officer-in-Charge of GMP's Tongi West Police Station Md Shahin Khan said preparations were underway to file regular cases against the arrested individuals for possession of drugs and illegal weapons.
