Tongi fire: Death toll now 4 as another fire Service official dies at burn institute

A warehouse inspector of the Fire Service wounded in the line of duty in an explosion at a chemical warehouse in Tongi has succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
Khondkar Jannatul Nayem, 37, who had suffered burns on 42% of the surface area of his body, passed away at 10am today (27 September), confirmed Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon at the institute.
He is the fourth casualty, following the deaths of Al Amin Babu, 18, yesterday, and firefighters Nurul Huda, 38, on 24 September and Shamim Ahmed, 40, a day before.
The tragic incident occurred on 22 September when a fire broke out at a tin-shed chemical warehouse in Tongi's Sahara Market.
As firefighters battled the blaze, a sudden explosion rocked the building, injuring multiple members of the fire service.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire and explosion.
