Japan keen on working with Bangladesh’s PPP Authority to implement projects

Japanese Ambassador in Dhaka Ito Naoki has said his country wants to work more closely with the public private partnership (PPP) authority in Bangladesh to implement projects under this initiative.  

The Japanese envoy said this during a courtesy visit to Sultana Afroz, secretary and chief executive officer of the PPP Authority on Monday.

Takashi Shirai, second secretary of the Japanese Embassy in Dhaka, accompanied the Japanese envoy during the visit, said a media statement. 

During the meeting, Sultana Afroz acknowledged the support of Japan during Bangladesh's Liberation War in 1971 – especially the role of the late Senator Hayakawa.

She also recognised Japan as Bangladesh's largest bilateral development partner.

Representing his country, Ito Naoki showed Japan's strong commitment in the promotion and development of PPP projects in Bangladesh.

The ambassador said the Japanese Embassy in Dhaka is keen to work closely with the PPP Authority.

Sultan Afroz and Ito Naoki also discussed the upcoming Fourth Bangladesh-Japan Joint PPP Platform Meeting to be held virtually on 24 February this year.

They talked about some ongoing PPP projects which are being implemented in assistance with Japan, including: the construction of multimodal transport hubs at the Kamlapur and Biman Bandar railway stations; the construction of the outer ring road (southern part) of Dhaka City; the improvement of the Chattogram to Cox's Bazar Highway; and the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of Mass Rapid Transit MRT Line 2.
