PPP Authority, Japan’s JFE Engineering discuss waste-to-energy plant

The PPP Authority has received a proposal from Japan's JFE Engineering Corporation to set up a modern waste-to-energy plant in Bangladesh under the PPP model.
A delegation led by Eiji Koga, Advisor for Sustainable Infrastructure Development (Waste Management) at Japan's Ministry of the Environment, met with Muhammad Rafiqul Islam, CEO of the PPP Authority, to present the plan. Similar projects exist in Japan and Vietnam.
The initiative aims to convert waste into clean electricity urgently, reduce landfill dependency, and lower greenhouse gas emissions by utilising Japanese technology. Rafiqul Islam welcomed the proposal and emphasised the critical need to launch the project without delay to achieve maximum long-term environmental and economic benefits. The PPP Authority will now review the submitted proposal and determine the necessary steps to advance the project.
