A Bangladeshi youth was shot to death by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday midnight near Khatiamari frontier in Rowmari upazila.

The victim is Hasinur Rahman Fakir Chand, 28, hailing from Khatiamari village in Sadar upazila.

Montasir Billah, Officer-in-Charge of Rowmari Police Station confirmed the matter to The Business Standard on Saturday.

Lieutenant Colonel AK Azad, commanding officer of BGB-35 Battalion in Jamalpur said BSF fired on Hasinur as he approached the Indian frontier.

An investigation into the incident is underway, Azad added, who was quoted by OC Montasir Billah.

According to police and BSF-6 sources, Hasinur sustained bullet injuries while smuggling narcotics through Kushnimara area (under Mainkarchar Police Station) of Hatsingimari district (under Assam).

His accomplices later took him to Rowmari Health Complex with bullet injuries on his chest and abdomen. However, the doctor on duty declared him dead on arrival.
