The court also acquitted two other accused – Samvu Sarker, son of Hariram Sarker of Savar and Topu Paul, son of Amir Paul of Dhamrai – of the charges.

According to the case statement, Saddam Miah raped the girl by promising her of marriage but later strangulated her to death at her home at Golra village of Saturia on 8 November 2012.

He fled the scene taking gold ornaments and Tk75,000 in cash. He sold the ornaments to Samvu Sarker and Topu Paul.

Sanwar Hossain, father of the victim, filed a case over the incident on the following day.

After completing all the legal procedures, the court handed down the verdict on Wednesday scrutinising charges pressed by investigation officer and testimonies of 18 witnesses.

At the court, KM Nurul Huda Rubel, the public prosecutor, represented the state while Nazrul Islam Badsha stood for the accused.
