Bangladesh Bank has issued new instructions for banks to remain open on a limited scale during the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, excluding the Eid day itself.
Today (16 March), the Supervisory Data Management and Analytics Department (SDAD) of Bangladesh Bank issued the directive, which was subsequently circulated to the management of all operational scheduled banks.
The directive states that, to keep import-export activities functional, bank branches, sub-branches and booths at seaports, land ports and airports must remain open on a limited basis from 17 to 23 March, including government and weekly holidays, except on Eid day.
It further specifies that on 18 and 19 March, special branches of banks in industrial areas will operate from 10am to 2pm, with a break for Zuhr prayers from 1:15pm to 1:30pm.
Customer transactions will be conducted from 10am to 1pm.
The directive also notes that this arrangement will cover garment industrial hubs in Savar, Gazipur, Tongi, Ashulia, Bhaluka, Narayanganj, and Chattogram.
On 17 and 20–23 March, individual banks will determine their schedule for transaction with customers.
If Eid falls on 21 March (subject to moon sighting), all banks will remain closed on that day.
