A 17-year-old college student was allegedly raped in a launch cabin while traveling to Dhaka, prompting a Dhaka court to place one accused on a five-day remand and record a confessional statement from another.
Following a hearing today (10 March), Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Siddiq Azad gave the remand order for Mohammad Sakib Uddin and recorded the confessional statement of Mohammad Nuruzzaman Mithu.
The case investigation officer, Inspector Mohammad Moshiul Alam of Kotwali Police Station, presented the accused before the court.
He also requested a seven-day remand for Sakib, but the court approved a five-day remand, confirmed SI Abul Kalam Azad of the Prosecution Department.
According to reports, the student was allegedly assaulted on Sunday while traveling from Hathiar Tamruddin Launch Ghat to Dhaka on the Farhan-4 launch.
Following the incident, her brother filed a case on Monday night at Kotwali Police Station, accusing both Sakib and Nuruzzaman.
