Autorickshaw driver held over raping woman in Lakshmipur
Following the incident, Lakshmipur police arrest the accused
Police have arrested an auto-rickshaw driver over allegations of raping a woman in Lakshmipur Sadar upazila yesterday (26 August).
The incident reportedly took place in Ward 6 of Char Ramani Mohan Union in Lakshmipur Sadar upazila.
The arrested, Taj Uddin, is the son of Imam Uddin Dewan and a resident of the same upazila, said Mohammad Wahid Parvez, officer-in-charge of Lakshmipur Sadar Model Police Station.
"A case has been filed in connection with the incident last night. The victim's medical examination has been completed today (27 August). Further legal action will be taken," he said.
According to police and locals, the woman had been married for around eight months. She left her parents' home last morning following an argument with her mother and went to Lakshmipur Sadar.
While returning to her in-laws' home in the afternoon, she reportedly lost her way when the accused offered to take her home and picked her up in his auto-rickshaw.
According to the allegation, as there were no other passengers in the vehicle, Taj Uddin took her near a garden and allegedly raped her.
He allegedly then left her by the roadside and attempted to leave the area. Hearing her cries, local residents came to the scene, detained him and informed the police.
A police team rushed to the scene after being informed and arrested the accused auto-rickshaw driver, the OC said.
