Swechhasebak Dal leader arrested with illegal firearm in Faridpur
The illegal US-made double-barrel gun was recovered from Sabuj's residence

A leader of the Faridpur metropolitan unit of Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Swechhasebak Dal has been arrested with an illegal US-made double-barrel gun following a joint raid by army and Faridpur's Kotwali police.
Mahfuzur Rahman Sabuj was arrested from his house in the Alipur neighbourhood of the city yesterday (12 September), during an operation that lasted from 7pm to 11pm.
Sabuj, 39, is the son of Motaleb Mia of the same area and serves as the member secretary of the Faridpur unit of Swechhasebak Dal.
According to joint forces sources, the operation was conducted by the Army's 15 Riverine Engineer Battalion, under the command of the 99 Composite Brigade of the 9th Infantry Division, along with the local police, following a tip-off.
The illegal firearm was recovered from Sabuj's residence.
Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Asaduzzaman said Sabuj had been illegally possessing the weapon for a long time.
At the time of filing this report, the OC said that preparations were underway to file a case against him under the Arms Act.
When contacted, Saikat Hasan, convener of Faridpur Swechhasebak Dal, confirmed that Mahfuzur Rahman is the member secretary of the metropolitan committee.
Saikat stated that while he was aware of the arrest, he had no further details about the incident. He added that the committee is run by the central body, which would take any necessary organisational action.
