3 sentenced to life imprisonment for gang-raping schoolgirl in Faridpur

A Faridpur court has sentenced three men to life imprisonment with hard labour for the gang rape of a ninth-grade schoolgirl at Boalmari, Faridpur in 2020.
The court also fined each convict Tk1 lakh, with an additional one year of simple imprisonment in default of payment.
Faridpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge and District and Sessions Judge Md Abul Bashar Mia pronounced the verdict today (18 August).
The convicts are Nasir Molla, 26, of Babukhali village in Mohammadpur upazila of Magura, Saikat Chandra, 26, of Lankar Char area in Boalmari upazila of Faridpur, and Nasir Molla, 36, of the same village.
They were present in court during the verdict and were later sent to Faridpur District Jail.
According to the case details, the victim was a ninth-grade student at Gohaibari Secondary School. She became acquainted with accused Nasir Molla through mobile phone.
On 28 January 2020, Nasir went near her home to meet her. After the girl went to the area, the accused allegedly forcibly took her away, put her on a boat on the Madhumati River and took her to a sandbar.
There, they allegedly threatened and gang-raped her while recording videos and taking photographs of the incident. When she became seriously ill, they brought her back to the riverbank at around 11pm and left her near her home.
The girl later told her parents and relatives about the incident. A case was filed at Boalmari Police Station on 29 January 2020 under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and the Pornography Control Act.
After a lengthy investigation and trial, the court delivered the verdict based on the evidence and testimonies presented.
Expressing satisfaction with the verdict, Faridpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Public Prosecutor Advocate Golam Rabbani Bhuiyan Ratan said, "We are extremely satisfied with the verdict. Such exemplary punishment will significantly help reduce heinous crimes such as child abuse and rape in society and create fear among criminals."
